Tucson Detention Basin Complex Habitat Restoration

The Project
Tucson Detention Basin ComplexWorking with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Pima County Flood Control, the City of Tucson, and Tucson Unified School District, WestLand Resources provided habitat restoration design, athletic field design, irrigation design and graphic design services for the Tucson Detention Basin Complex in Tucson, Arizona.

This project reconfigures the existing Arroyo Chico drainage into a restored riparian habitat and creates multiple use detention basin areas in three adjacent parcels. The existing Cherry Fields baseball complex will be reconstructed with new fields, lighting and locker facilities in this new detention basin complex. New upland desert vegetation will be established in association with preserved vegetation throughout the project. A new pathway system runs throughout the project.

Extensive citizen participation has been incorporated into the process on this project over an 8-year period. Coordination with multiple utilities, jurisdictions, and landowners has made the design of this project one of the most complex that WestLand has been involved with.
