Senior Biological/Natural Resources Discipline Lead
Archaeology Program Lead

WestLand Resources, Inc. is actively seeking to fill a Senior Biological/Natural Resources Discipline Lead. WestLand's environmental consulting practice specializes in the technical and procedural requirements necessary for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. Our biological resources practice includes: development of natural resources management plans; conducting ecological resources investigations and baseline studies; and mitigation planning, design and implementation. The successful candidate for the position of Senior Biological/Natural Resources Discipline Lead will be a team player; have demonstrated abilities in the design and implementation of biological and natural resources studies, outstanding writing and verbal communication skills, demonstrated project and staff management skills, and extensive experience with major federal environmental programs including NEPA and the Endangered Species Act.

The responsibilities of the position would include:
  • Providing senior technical review and support to Principals and Project Managers
  • Project Management
  • Developing research designs and sampling protocols for an array of biological survey work
  • Directing and coordinating efforts of staff
  • Business Development
  • Report and Product Development
  • Implementation of QA/QC procedures
  • Mentoring junior staff and reviewing biological reports
  • Effective participation on interdisciplinary teams in a lead or technical support role
  • Participating in project teams to facilitate accomplishment of prescribed scopes of work

    Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Masters Degree in a biological field of study from an accredited university or college
  • 10 plus years of relevant job experience
  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license by hire date or demonstrated ability to obtain one by hire date

    The successful candidate will assume the role of manager for an established group of professionals including principal investigators, staff archaeologists, field archaeologists and laboratory personnel. In addition, this group leader will participate with other practice leaders in the firm to coordinate project activities and insure client satisfaction.

    Qualifications:
  • An advanced degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in Southwestern US archaeology
  • Experience in cultural resource management
  • A record of good working relationships with clients and agencies
  • Familiarity with the NHPA Section 106 process and its interface with NEPA and federal undertakings
  • A record of timely completion of technical reports, research documents, and projects
