Chuck Powell Named Chairperson Volunteer of the Year by the Arizona Geographic Information Council

WestLand is proud to announce that Chuck Powell has been named the Chairperson Volunteer of the Year by the Arizona Geographic Information Council in recognition of his dedication to promoting geospatial technology to enrich the lives of others.

For the past four years, Chuck has been a Geomentor, working with students ranging from kindergarten-age through fifth grade and their teachers at Borton Magnet School, a Tucson Unified School District school in Tucson. He has introduced them to GIS and spatial thinking by utilizing teaching technology and software provided by Esri to create maps and web applications, collect data, and analyze findings for classroom projects. You can see the kids’ enthusiasm and engagement in this video where Chuck explains the program.

At WestLand, Chuck provides graphics and mapping support on a variety of environmental, cultural, and biological projects and specializes in GIS using ArcGIS and AutoCad programs in addition to providing training to outside staff on the use of Esri Desktop and Web Applications.
